CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS:
UPDATED 05/21/2020

St. George Coptic Orthodox Church

Daytona Beach, FL

www.stgeorgedaytonabeach.org

Through God's grace we have completed scheduling everyone that registered for round 1. Registration is still open if you need to add your name.

We have started to contact families for round 2 registration based on the date of communion received for round 1.  We will continue to contact families during the upcoming week.

Starting May 30, we are scheduling Divine Liturgies for 40 people In addition to Abouna and few deacons responsible for the organization of the Divine Liturgy during these times. This number may change in the future as the guidelines change. All liturgies are scheduled from 7-9 am.

We are doing our very best trying to schedule people based on weekend and weekday availability, leaving weekend spots for those who truly need it. We are doing our best trying to balance the attendees to limit the number of infants and children in the church at one time for their protection. Holy Communion is also administered in the homes for the elderly if they request it to help keep those at most risk to receiving communion in the safety of their homes.

After you complete this form, a servant will contact you when a spot is available for you to attend a Divine Liturgy. Please do not register again if you already did so and attended a liturgy during the month of May. Thank you in advance for having patience with us.

You can sign up on this form

https://forms.gle/jkvWTMyG5bK8xKnD8

Scheduling:

  • A church servant will contact you and send you an invitation for an upcoming liturgy.

  • After you are scheduled for the liturgy, if you are unable to attend, please notify the servant as soon as possible to accommodate for another family. Please DO NOT switch your turn with anyone else. This will cause more problems in the future.

  • After finishing the whole congregation, we will announce to anyone to see if anyone has missed their turn before starting a second or third round of registration.

Before coming to church:

  • Be prepared to receive the Holy Communion. Spend the time before church to self-examine yourself.

  • If you have not had a recent confession, check with your father of confession to do so by phone.

  • Prepare your materials for the church. Bring your own head covering and own church napkin (lefafa). Bring your own coptic agpeya/liturgy books or coptic reader.

  • Everyone should be fasting from food and water from the night before the liturgy.

  • You will receive a medical screening waiver 48 hours prior to the liturgy you’re attending. Please complete as soon as you recieve.  You will need to confirm your attendance 2 days before the liturgy.

  • The Liturgies are scheduled early to allow everyone to be able to make it to homeschool and work and you will need to arrive before the scheduled time of the liturgy.  The church doors will be locked shortly after the registered individuals have arrived.

During the Liturgy:

  • Please arrive at the beginning of the liturgy scheduled time. Do not be late

  • Once you arrive at the church, you will go through a medical screening checkpoint by one of our medical clinic servants including a temperature check.

  • You will maintain social distancing of 6 feet between people.

  • You will use only the designated benches of the church or the deacons sides. Spread out in the benches between people. The second floor is closed at this time. We are attempting to only schedule 1-2 families with children under 3 in one liturgy to help with the crying room and social distancing.

  • It is advised for you to use a face mask throughout the entire prayer except for receiving Holy communion.   You will need to bring your own.

  • During communion service, please keep your distance from Abouna and open your mouth wide to receive the Holy Communion.  Please help the young children for abouna.

  • You will Leave the church directly after the service and will not enter the fellowship hall or stay in the parking lot.

UPCOMING DIOECESE EVENTS & CONVENTIONS:
UPDATED 03/14/2020

History of St. George Coptic Orthodox Church, in Daytona Beach, FL

St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach, FL was in 1985 by Fr. Ghobrial Abdelsayed among a group of 5 families.  These families were served by 3 different priests until His Holiness Pope Shenouda’s visit in October 14, 1989 and his promise to his sheep for ordaining a priest to them.  In 1990, Father Isaac Bassily was ordained by H.H.Pope Shenouda III as a priest of the immigrant land, and the Daytona Beach community.  The church was consecrated by His Holiness on March 2, 1991.  This was the second visit by His Holiness to our church, and we were later blessed with a third visit in 1997 to consecrate the baptismal and icons of the church.

The church was also blessed with Bishop Youssef as a general bishop in October 1993 who carried out the first priest meeting for a group of 10 priests at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church.

The construction of the church was split into five phases ...
Phase I: change of the layout of the church from Seventh Day Adventist to a Coptic layout
Phase II: creation of altar, deacon seating area, iconastasis, icons, and windows
Phase III: construction of St. Abanoub’s chapel and baptismal
Phase IV: first expansion of the fellowship hall, purchase of several homes adjoining the church, church roof, and new internal dome, purchase of Theotokos Land
Phase V: second expansion of fellowship hall, construction of Sunday school rooms, conference rooms, and house demolition and creating a paved parking lot
Phase VI: In progress
